Point to point bridge

Fri May 15, 2009 12:18 am

Hi guys,

just purchased 2 RB433AH boards and some XR5 cards, and would like to set up a point to point bridge with the 2 radios. what would be the best way to go about it? there are a few option in the firmware that support it, but I am not sure on which would be best. I would like to stay away from AP/WDS as I don't want the master side to act as an AP while in use.

thanks,

The best way is to use AP on one side and station-wds on the other. You can easily control the AP such that only your station can connect or run the AP side in mode=bridge which is identical to mode=ap-bridge except only one station can connect. As for WDS mode, which is different from the AP/bridge mode question, you can use WDS or you can use EoIP. WDS is more efficient because of the larger packet sizes available. With EoIP, you can fragment all your larger packets. They get reessembled at the other side properly, but you increase your overhead.
