PCI drive controller supported

Wed Oct 21, 2009 9:02 am

We'll, I'm about to install the OS but hit a snag right at the start. The Intel computer I want to use has a nonstandard silicon image IDE 'raid' controller as the only hard drive interfaces built in.... and the RouterOS ISO image can't see the drive on it.... The computer uses a third channel for a CD Rom that seems compatible / more standard but it uses a nonstandard IDE cable (so it wouldn't be easy to chain in a disk to that channel)...

I have a free PCI slot. Is there / can it work / can anyone recommend a PCI IDE or Sata card that the RouterOS can see drives on for installation?

Thanks

Try turning the RAID function OFF in the system firmware..

This sometimes released the drive IO resources...

Raid is not activated but its a silicon image custom chipset that the drive finder in the mikrotik iso can not use and find drives on.

I don't know enough about linux to build a custom kernal with added support.

If it can see drives on some kind of PCI card, I'd be willing to pick one up.

How about sharing a model number..... because it can not with the one I have.

Does anyone want to throw me a bone here and be helpful?

Does anyone know of a generic PCI IDE card? I don't remember seeing those since ISA, but if they work I could use a brand/model and/or source.
