Use the serial console. You will need a null modem cable (or standard serial cable with a null modem adapter). I use HyperTerminal in Windows. Then:
/system reset

No, a VGA cable is for monitors.

Just go to your favourite electronics store. They'll probably carry it. Newegg does, too. It's a common piece of equipment.

Hello
Its my first post and i hope it might be usefull.
Use that program NeighborViever -> mark on needed device -> click on MAC Telnet -> Log On and wait a while, press Enter and type system reset, apply and DONE. Your mikrotik has default settings and rebooting.

If you don't know the password, the you need a null modem cable and netinstall. I think there may be a way to do it now all over ethernet (for the 750 at least). Search the forum for the how-to.

i don't understanding you. Why you go that way? if you dont remember your password to mikrotik, the simply way is using hardware reset... To use serial cable you need phisically acces to this mikrotik... Please explain why you dont do this?? Maybe this is not your board?? hmm??

i got hold of a cable which has female on one end and the other male but i had the female converter so i put one end of the cable in the mikrotik board and chnge the male end with the female converter i put it on my desktop opened up hyperterminal with these settings :=
115200bit/s, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity, flow control=none by default.

It's probably not a null modem cable but a serial cable. Check the wiring as per the documentation. Rewire if you have to, or obtain a null modem cable.

Even if you manage to reset via the jumper sooner or later you will want a null modem cable if you're going to be working with RouterBOARDs.
