RB751 When???

Wed Dec 15, 2010 5:35 pm

The RB750 is a great SOHO router with one exception... No wireless!!!

So, when can we buy an all-inclusive (Ether and Wireless) SOHO Mikrotik router?

So I have a customer that wants my service - great.

They want it all managed by me... Great!

They have a 300 square foot office. Great!

They want wireless... Ugg. Instead of deploying a nice, sleek looking RB750, I have to:

* Buy an RB493 (Because there is no RB451)
* Buy an R52Hn
* Buy 2 pigtails
* Buy 2 antennas
* Buy a power supply
* Buy a case
* Pray it will all fit together (and hope you don't need 2 x R52Hn cards for whatever reason).
* Assemble the whole thing.
* Hope the customer finds it presentable enough to not wreck the deal (being a small office, it will not be hidden anywhere).

So am I the only person that runs into this problem on a regular basis??

Nope, I'm in the same boat as you. Many many times I wished there was some kind of 451G (or 452G) available.
Unfortunately for people like us Mikrotik targets to WISP networks rather than SOHO environments.

If they are targeting Wireless ISPs to the exclusion of others, then why does the RB750 even exist?

Who knows? Maybe they're evaluating whether SOHO retail market segment is a viable target market for them.
I understand their hesitancy, though. RouterOS and RBs are great but it is still not easy to compete with sub-$100 dual radio consumer routers (price wise).

Plus the added support. The SOHO market needs more support, which makes margins even thinner.

Meh, sell devices without support. If someone needs support, they can purchase a support contract. That's how you deal with the profit margins and SOHO support.

We're SOHO. I've personally installed about 10 RB705(g) devices and would love to have integrated wireless. I know 10 isn't alot, but considering we were using m0n0wall up till about a couple of months ago, 10 in the field is pretty good. No training for me, just a decent enough understanding of networking and utilizing the forums for what I didn't understand.

Anywho, back to release dates, I'd like to see some dates for these and a couple of other new devices that were announced. The technology in these things is great.

Just got my new RB751u -- it's slightly larger than the 750. More photos here.

and here is something to help out those SOHO users that know little about networking:

http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:In ... figuration

any ideas what to add?

planning to add:
[*] on sNTP section (add where to get servers)
[*] use of proxy to limit what web pages can be accessed
.

joshxx,

Surely you have used google?

Go there, search for RB751 and take your pick. :)

We have been shipping them for two weeks and still have them stock. I can't speak for the rest but there are hundreds of other Mikrotik distributors out there.
