Joining networks with diff ip ranges

Fri Mar 25, 2011 1:55 pm

howist,

Can some one please tell me how you go about joining 2 or more networks with diff ip ranges to each other?

I know its prob very simple but i just wana read up on it etc.

I have 2 buildings each with their own dhcp and ip range, now i want to ad a bridge between the buildings and allow the computers to see each other from both buildings..

Thanks

just add a static route at each end pointing to the router of the opposite end, if that makes sense

So i would need 2 mikrotiks

one on each side of the bridge??

OR can i do it with one? ( mikrotik router pluged into wireless bridge and then into lan??)

i assume that 192.168.1.5/25 should be 192.168.1.5/24. but that should work just how it is.
Post the output of
/ip address print

Howist,

Will a RB450G be able to handle a /16 subnet?

Cause if it will then it will solve out problem?

And still route traffic?

Sorry for the late reply. but i have been busy with the link.

I have building A 's network connected to a mikrotik ( client) then that connects to an (AP) bridge with a wds transparent bridge im between them.
That AP then connects to a RB450G in ether5

That RB450G is the main router for the network in Building B.

I want the rb450g to do the routing between building A and building B.

Building A and B have diff sub nets, as they each have a large amount of pcs. i want the computers in building a and b to be able to see each other as if they where both on the same subnet.

rb450g info:
ether 1: WAN with NAT to a internet source
ether 2: LAN (bulding b network)
ether 3: wire to a wireless AP Bridge between ether3 and ether 2 with a dhcp on it
ether 4: na
ether 5: Wire to wireless AP connecting to client

Q1:
Do i need ip addresses on the 2 wireless devices that are forming the bridge? (or is there a way to make it transparent so that its as if there was a wire plugged into the rb450g)

Q2: Where do i start?

Q3: must the ip of ether5 be the ip address of building a?
