I've been looking into the Cloud Core Router CCR1036-12G-4S


Basically my network consists of two VLAN's, plus 3 x adsl2+ lines via vigor120 adsl Ethernet modems to a Draytek Vigor3900 Router, both VLAN's are separated at the 3900 via the separate Ethernet connections.
I haven't been happy with the reliability and speed of the 3900 as its a very new product and still sorting out the issues.

VLAN 1 is for the guest network only which is mainly controlled via a Untangle server for hotspot control and dhcp as the 3900 has a dhcp issue, also 4 x Vigor AP700 after the untangle server and Netgear GS110TP PoE switch to power them.

VLAN 2 is for business and personal network, which consists of firstly a HP Procurve v1910-24G then 2 x apple extremes 1 x time capsule , sonos systems , and so fourth

Any improvements and advantages ???

Same here... got to have the speed and power to handle anything thrown at it

Considering what he's throwing... a RB1100 would be over kill.

True it would be over kill, but then at least you know it will never have issues due to high load etc

I'm trying to give my current draytek vigor 3900 a chance to shine , if issues come back then possibly upgrade if I can confirm the reliability and success of mikrotik router boards RoutorOS from other users at this time

I have a similar network but also doing ipsec tunnel. I have a few more routed networks directly attached.

I'm doing about 30 filter rules and about 20 mangles along with 4 queue trees. I use an rb1200 doing this and it rarely >20% cpu

I have a games night in house with friends twice a week , they bring their own gear ...
However with gaming becoming more Internet based , the power will come in handy

What wan speed do you have? Plan for your needs in 3-4 years. I myself will get fiber in 1 year (1gbit) and thus ordered a CCR for that. High speed with VPN services and you will saturate a 1100x2

So far got 3 adsl2+ lines via 3 x vigor 120 adsl to Ethernet modems, 2 of the lines are business static ip 20:1 ratio while the third is standard home adsl 50:1 ratio.

All 3 lines are from the same ISP, same gateway , same DNS , same cable length to exchange.

However to far for VDSL , just slightly over, you have to be within 2km of the exchange on the Isle of Man to receive VDSL , I'm 2.4km away

Apparently manx telecom ( Isle of Man ISP ) is testing proper fiber to homes that will replace vdsl eventually ... So planning on that and is why I got the draytek 3900 which has fiber modules for wan and LAN

What's the best adsl2+ modems to Ethernet devices used with routerboards ???

The vigors you use are pretty good for performance and compatability. Generally depending on the line rate most of the basic modems/routers work fine.

Tplink 8817's are probably one of the best value as their cost next to nothing but rates >15mbit constantly on these units I've seen them crash.

Check with the isp on what their dslams are and then you can select a modem that has the best/same chipset for that brand
