How Device Detects Distance?

Hello
i want know how Mikrotik/ubnt device detects a client radio Distance?
and is it possible for client to make a fake distance? (client use Mikrotik Device)

That is manual distance not autodetect...

i checked it, and this option cannot make a false distance on AP.
still distance are true.

Distance detection is based on propagation time. Quite simple physics to follow with clear path of sight. Different matter is if you have reflections then these packets tend to travel longer and have sort of other transformations with them, so it will be trickier to calculate the distance, but roughly doable as well.
