Very slow LAN

Sun Feb 23, 2014 7:15 pm

I guys, i'm completely new to this. So I apologies advance.

The thing is, I only used my Time Capsule 4th gen in the past. But i've I setup a MikroTik RB951G-2HnD as router. I just used the Quick Set configuration. And I haven't changed anything. I've connected the Time Capsule to the RB951G-2HnD as a bridge via ethernet cable (port 5). I've got some part of my iTunes media files stored on the TC. But now transfering files to and from my laptop and Time Capsule takes forever. And I can't stream to my Apple TV, just keep loading.

It's weird, because i have a fast connecting. And I had no problem before i started using the MikroTik. Something is clearly wrong in the setup, but I don't know what and where. I could just disconnect the MikroTik and go back too how things were, but I need RouterOS to run OpenVPN.

But i'm thinking that it might be better to perhaps set the RB951G-2HnD as bride and leave the TC in charge of creating the wireless network? That the TC is a better wireless device.

I'm in doubt about the right direction. So if somehow to point in the right way, I would be thankful.
And I will provide you with logs, just tell me what you need.
(RouterOS 5.26)

Thanks.

Could you please post your configuration, removing passwords etc?

About my connection speed. Quote form my IPS's website:
"The connection has no maximum limitation. This means that you can experience speeds higher than 50 Mbps., For example. 80 Mbps or 500 Mbps - depending on the equipment you are sitting on."

And i've attached a quick illustration.

Re: Very slow LAN

Wed Dec 17, 2014 11:22 pm

Hello,
the exact same problem here.

I'am using the RB951G-2HnD, PC and Synology NAS (both connected via 5e and 6 cat. FTP cables). The speeds betwen PC and NAS are simply dissapointing ~10MB/s. I've connected PC and Synology directly to each - speed exceeds 80MB/s

What I've tested so far is:
- changing cables to shorter ones
- reseting the routerboard to it's default
- downgrading from newest 6.23 to 5.26 via netinstall (losing all settings again)
- setting a higher cpu speeds

Anyone has any suggestions what else should I check?

All connected devices auto-negotiated full duplex 1Gbps.

Now I am almost sure that my RB is more than enough to handle routing WAN connections and serve as vpn server, but I need good standalone switch to speed-up my LAN.
