Quick Set: AP Mode

Fri May 30, 2014 10:28 am

Hello,

I have setup a PTP Bridge with AP (server/AP) and client (Client/CPE) within a few click without any problems.

No I want to change to AP bridge mode (to connect more than one client) and have set the following:

- AP Quickset
- Mode: bridge
- Address Acquisition: Static
- IP Address: 192.168.88.1/24

after pressing "Apply Configuration" the connection to the device is lost. No ping possible to 192.168.88.1

It's Licence Level 4.
What make I wrong?

best regards
Frank

Are you directly connected to the device when you use the QuickSet feature?

Yes directly via Webfig. Laptop has 192.168.88.21/24
Ethernet port with PoE label is used. Power not via PoE injector.

Thank, Frank

I recommend not to use quickset. It is meant for absolute beginners to give simple way to set at least something. But it will never meet your needs.

Quickset is fine if you are looking to get a basic config onto the box without extra fluff.

To the issue of loosing connectivity once you apply, have you tried connecting via MAC?

There is a bug in Quickset.

When you hit Apply it changes the interface for lan ip from bridge-local to ether2.

If you are not connected to ether2, or ether2 is not part of the bridge,
you will not be able to reach it.

This may be what is happening to you.

To check this, use a serial cable to see what changes are being made.

I use the following work around:

/system scheduler
add interval=10s name=CheckBridgeInterface policy=read,write,test start-date=jan/01/1970 \
start-time=00:01:00 on-event=":if ([/ip address get [find network=192.168.1.0] interface]!=\"bridge-local\") \
do={/ip address set [find network=192.168.1.0] interface=bridge-local}"

okay, thanks for the hint. The serial cable will be my new (old) friend.
I have now setup the AP step by step and it's working very well.

The work around with the scheduler is a very good idea. This is a safe fall back to the local network for acessing the bridge.
Thanks.

best regards
Frank
