RB2011UiAS-2HnD running hot - what's a normal temperature?

Sat Nov 15, 2014 9:33 am

Hi all

I've got a RB2011UiAS-2HnD for a new install, it came with 6.17 I think and I'm now running 6.22. With both, the unit runs extremely hot to the touch. I've run the profiler and it doesn't seem to be doing anything but from fresh power up the temperature rises steadily. Gut feel says it shouldn't be running this hot, given that it's not really doing much. Can anyone else with the same model/version confirm if they have this issue?

One thing I did notice was that in DNS static it shows an entry for the router and a reverse entry for the router's IP, with a TTL which seems to count down from a day to 23:59:59, then 23:59:58, then jump back to 1 day 00:00:01 and decrease down over a few seconds before looping round and doing it all over again. Related? I'm not sure.

Here's what I've got after about 15 minutes of uptime (I rebooted it 12 minutes after power up)
[admin@MikroTik] > /system health print
      voltage: 24V
  temperature: 94C
[admin@MikroTik] > /system resource print
                   uptime: 3m14s
                  version: 6.22
               build-time: Nov/11/2014 14:46:47
              free-memory: 106.2MiB
             total-memory: 128.0MiB
                      cpu: MIPS 74Kc V4.12
                cpu-count: 1
            cpu-frequency: 600MHz
                 cpu-load: 1%
           free-hdd-space: 112.7MiB
          total-hdd-space: 128.0MiB
  write-sect-since-reboot: 91
         write-sect-total: 10659
               bad-blocks: 0%
        architecture-name: mipsbe
               board-name: RB2011UiAS-2HnD
                 platform: MikroTik
Anyone got any ideas/pointers?

Yes. The right side, below the LCD, and underneath feels very hot.
What is the CPU load from the routerboard
1% - I just plugged the unit into power and let it sit there. If I do "/system health print" I see the temperature increase steadily over 15 minutes, while the router is just sitting there with no traffic flowing through it, with a default config.

It's strange - do you have any ideas?

could you check if all the ethernet ports are linked when you connect a device?
Please contact your distributor for RMA.

That is normal for static DNS entry.

And I think something wrong with your RB, because processor load only 1% and temperature is 94 Celsius.

Contact your distributor for RMA.

Replace RB to another colder room. :)

I guess your RB2011 has 2 fans. don't I?
Are they working?
Is there any dust or dirt on your RB which doesn't allow air to flow?
is your place warm?

I didn't experience this issue on RB but once my Computer get to 100 Celsius and after that just shutdown.
I saw there were lots of dirt and dust on my main board and CPU and everything...
