Tracking devices

Tue Dec 02, 2014 12:10 pm

Hi, I'm a RouterOS newbie and would appreciate any help.

My goal is to know when a device was last seen on the network.

Q1: I want to track and identify devices going through my RouterOS gateway?

The devices are iPhones which may connect to the network using 3rd party APs, they do not respond to pings but wake-up periodically to talk to Apple's notification servers. So I think my best option is to have my RouterOS gateway track any traffic from the iPhone to the internet and collect or push this information to another host on the network, in real-time or periodically.

Q2: What are my options for pushing or polling this information to/from another host on the network?

Gateway Specs:
RouterBOARD RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN
RouterOS v6.19

Use another device like openwrt and run your wifi card at monitor mode.Install some dump prog. (tcpdump or etc..)Also you should have to research very deeply after this point.
