Router periodically crashed totally until powercycle

Fri Nov 04, 2016 7:38 am

Hi at all,

we use Mikrotik CCR Routers for OSPF Core Routing in our DC environment since years now. A few days ago one of this boxes (a CCR1009) reboots with a watchdog message twice and after a third reboot box never came buck until we removed and plugged in again the power cord. The interesting thing is, that no suppout file got generated.

At first we thought the Hardware may have some problems with ist ram or something else and we replaced the box with a CCR1036 (we had as sparepart) - it seems to work, but after about 24 hours this box crashed also like the old one. The next thing we did was a firmware upgrade (the old version 6.34.2 is therer since half an year and never made problems) - with the new version (6.37) the problems are the same.

This box is not externally reachable and just is the OSPF Core Router in a private 10.0.0.0 range in front of our PPTP / PPPOE concentrators.

Does anyone have a suggestion how we can get behind this "MAGIC" reboots and hangups ?

Definitely it's no DDOS, it's on our internal network and i see nothing special in our cacti graphs or on our other exits from the network.
