Route OSPF error: Discarding packet locally originated

Sat Jan 27, 2018 11:18 am

Hello,

This is the setup:

RB ETH3 10.0.x.x/30 --------10.0.x.x/30 ETH 2 RB 10.0.x.x/30 ------- bridge to another building across the street --- 10.0.x.x/30 RB 10.0.x.x ----- 10.0.x.x/30 RB

First RB is accessible via internet via public ip 193.191.x.x

I configured OSPF on the first two RB. I need to configure a failover on all RB's so that when the internet fails in the building across the street, they are still able to access the internet via the first building.

When looking in the logs I have thess error messages:
route, ospf error discarding packet: locally originated
route, ospf error discarding packet: src address= 10.0.x.x
route, ospf error discarding packet: locally originated
route, ospf error discarding packet: src address= 193.191.x.x

These messages popup every 2-3 seconds.

I checked MTU of the connected interfaces and they are the same.

when looking in the routes of the first RB, there are no OSPF injected routes

Anyone have an idea why this happens?

add a loopback id/ip to your router. eg add bridge interface called loopback on all routers. Eg 1.1.1.1 at nr1 1.1.1.2 at number 2 , 1.1.1.3 at 3 eg.

Then add ospf to have this id/ip at routerid in instances.. use network type ptp or ptmp. never run interface all.
