[Solved] Routing Protocols not working on hEX 6.42.3 [OSPF/RIP]

Sat May 26, 2018 11:18 pm

Hi,

I just recently upgraded to 6.42.3 and I'm trying out the new configuration style without master ports. I have configured a bridge and added my target port to the bridge, then assigned an IP to the bridge. I can ping across the link just fine. But when I add OSPF or RIP to the bridge interface, nothing happens. I don't see a neighbor relationship form. Both devices are hEX running the same code. Any hints or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

[admin@MikroTik] /routing ospf interface> print detail
Flags: X - disabled, I - inactive, D - dynamic, P - passive
2 D interface=bridge2 cost=10 priority=1 authentication=none
authentication-key="" authentication-key-id=1 network-type=broadcast
instance-id=0 retransmit-interval=5s transmit-delay=1s
hello-interval=10s dead-interval=40s use-bfd=no

[admin@MikroTik] /routing ospf neighbor> print detail

[admin@MikroTik] /ip address> print
Flags: X - disabled, I - invalid, D - dynamic
# ADDRESS NETWORK INTERFACE
2 192.168.90.1/30 192.168.90.0 bridge2
[admin@MikroTik] /ip address> /ping 192.168.90.2
SEQ HOST SIZE TTL TIME STATUS
0 192.168.90.2 56 64 0ms
1 192.168.90.2 56 64 0ms
sent=2 received=2 packet-loss=0% min-rtt=0ms avg-rtt=0ms max-rtt=0ms

d,
This turned out to be firewall related. There were new default rules that dropped the traffic.

Yes it's really common that some firewall rules drop the hellos for routing protocols, but I've seen some NAT rules that can do the same too by masquerading the packets into a different address.
