HELP - BGP Peer dropping, odd VPN log message

Thu Jun 07, 2018 5:24 am

We are currently experiencing constant BGP Peer drops. Our fiber provider is looking into it on their end right now. Figured I'd ask here also.

The BGP Peer is dropping seemingly for no reason. Here is what we're seeing in the Log (which has BGP debugging enabled):
jun/06 21:14:51 route,bgp,debug Start BGP instance
jun/06 21:14:51 route,bgp,debug AS=(our provider's ASN)
jun/06 21:14:51 route,bgp,debug RouterId=(our provider's IP)
jun/06 21:14:51 route,bgp,debug VPN: Begin forced redistribution
jun/06 21:14:51 route,bgp,debug VPN: End redistribution
jun/06 21:14:53 route,bgp,debug Connecting
jun/06 21:14:53 route,bgp,debug RemoteAddress=(our provider's IP)
jun/06 21:14:53 route,bgp,debug,state Entering Connect state
jun/06 21:14:53 route,bgp,debug,state RemoteAddress=(our provider's IP)
jun/06 21:14:53 route,bgp,info TCP connection established
jun/06 21:14:53 route,bgp,info RemoteAddress=(our provider's IP)
I'm confused as to what the "VPN: Begin forced redistribution" and "VPN: End redistribution" log messages could mean. It shows up every time the BGP peer drops.

Any clues as to what's going on here?

Check your RAM on router. Maybe your peer begin to redistribute to you full view, you memory ends and that's it?

Thank you for the suggestion. I kept an eye on the CPU and RAM during the disconnections and they remained stable and far from 100% capacity.

I did eventually hear back from our fiber provider and their logs showed that our peer was closing the connection, even though our fiber line was receiving plenty of light. At the moment we're still not sure what is causing it.

Hi, I'll try to upgrade the RouterOS into the most stable bugfix version.
