PPPoE and DHCP problems

Tue Sep 11, 2018 6:27 pm

Good afternoon all,

I have a quick problem to see if anyone has experienced the same thing.

I have a PPPoE server with approx 600 clients connected.

Client connects via PPPoE and has a ver high ping (300ms) same client connects via DHCP and the ping is 5ms....

PPPoE is configured with max MTU 1480, have tried lower MTU but with no change.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi, if you're experimenting that i'll check the layer2 domain of your network, is the PPPoE server and the DHCP server running on the same router ?

Yes both are on the same router and the same interface.

What would you recommend checking?

What level of ROS license do you have on the router?

Layer 2 network devices are the same for dhcp and pppoe? Like PPPoE transport(switch1 - swicth2 - swicth3) and dhcp transport(switch1 - swicth2 - swicth3)?

Yes the network is the same, we have bridges via three wireless PTP links and then Mikrotik AP and clients are Mikrotik. Cliente we activat DHCP and ping is low and activate PPPoE and ping is 300ms!

I suggest you to test PPPoE network without wireless devices, in segment without live users. Maybe this is the reason.

I have seen that it is not all areas of the network that have the problem, most PPPoE connections are working fine, just some areas of the network has this strange problem.

So, maybe it's end-user's problem?
