Can Mikrotik be Configured as a WAG with GTP Tunnel ?

Tue Oct 09, 2018 1:19 pm

HI All. Good Day!

I am referring to the Technologies "HS 2.0", "Mobile Offloading" and "Link Aggregations". Where Mobile Phones are offloaded to use 'Operators Available Wifi Network' for the Internet Instead of "Mobile (3G) Network. Mikrotik " \Interface Wireless Internetworking" has the Features which are not documented in either wiki or web. In a MUM Presentation, Mr.Rofiq Fouzi Presented that HS2.0 can be used in APs Facing the users.

Next Step is the Connection (Using EoGRE, Can we use EoIP Instead ? ) of those APs to a Remotely Located WAG ( Wireless Application/Access Gateway), which connects "Operators Wifi" to the "Operators Core ( GGSN.HLR etc. ) .

WAG ( Dreaming to use Mikrotik here ) Needs to connect to Radius Server ( No Issue in that ) and Also to GGSN Using GTP Tunnel ( Do Mikrotik have this Feature ? )

Please Provide a Mikrotik Specific Solution in this case !

Thankyou.

Hi, sorry for late reply, but lets leave it for history)
I've been working on the same project, we used Mikrotik mostly for PoC.
So, in genereal EAP-SIM auth for HS 2.0 works fine, yes.
Regarding traffic forwarding - no, that is not possible without involving some EoGRE terminator in the middle. You bridge WLAN interface to some VLAN (on Mikrotik) and then bridge VLAN to EoGRE tunnel (on linux VM/server) which is istablished towards TWAG (trusted wireless access gateway)

no, Mikrotik does not support GTP protocol, there is a huge field of work to implement all the 3GPP stuff in our favourite L3 router)
