Ethernet forwarding

Sat Nov 16, 2019 6:15 pm

Hello fellow mtik people,

I need some of your knowledge, how could I forward all Ethernet frames from 1 interface into another?

Long version: I have a fortinet with IP x.x.x.54/30 on wan1, default gateway x.x.x.53. I need to connect the gateway (53) into RB1100 ether3 and the fortinet into RB ether2. But I need the fortinet to be able to use the internet. So, the RB only needs to forward packets between those interfaces.

Is not IP forwarding but frames forwarding, am I right?

Thanks in advance!

If I understand correctly, you should use bridge ! Add and set the ip address of the bridge for WAN and put ether2 and ether3 into it.

Sounds like you just want bridge ether2 & ether3. Basiclly a two port switch.

But what is the RB1100 supposed to do?

I don't want to use addresses on the bridge, Is that possible?, Just forward the packets!

The RB1000 was replaced by the fortinet, but I want to experiment a bit with the RB1000 before boxing it and put it in a shelf.

Thanks guys!

Don't add an address to the bridge then :)
