Hi Guys,
Our ISP network is expanding to another region and we are planning to use MikroTik routers as route reflector servers. In our current setup we have a MikroTik CCR1072 which holds around 1.7 Million BGP routes. ( Two tables of full internet routing table ). Upon expansion of our network we will have new upstream partners and peering which will extend the amount of routes which needs to hold by MikroTik routers.
In current production we are using 2 Cisco ISR4451 as route reflectors with 16GB of memory each and it has 1.8 Million routes in its table. I have email to MikroTik support to know more about this and they have revert back with a documentation which contains some info about it.
https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:B ... e_table.3F
As per the documentation to have 300,000 routes it requires 256 MB of RAM. According to this fact to have one copy of full internet routing now it requires 768 MB of RAM since amount of routes has exceeded 800,000. ( This is my calculation actually ). If this calculation is correct MikroTik 1036 and CCR 1072 should be able to hold 8.5 million and 17 million routes respectively.
I would to know your experience, thoughts and recommendations about this guys. Please share with me your comments.
Cheers.
Chanu.
