VRRP + OSPF

Mon Jan 25, 2021 6:23 pm

Hello Board,

wondering how to properly implement OSPF on interfaces with VRRP.

If I create a VRRP (v4) interface, I will have two interfaces on that Multicast OSPF segment.
One physical/vlan interface and one logical VRRP interface.
There will be IP's on both of those interfaces as VRRP needs those IPs to run.
Therefore, OSPF will 'see' both interfaces and advertises them both to neighbors to run Multicast with and elect its role.
This in return (at least for me) creates a whole range of issues, namely with faulty sequence numbers and messages about wrong authentication types.

Who experiences this too?
Is there any way to set this up properly?

Or just don't use VRRP when running OSPF anyway?

There is no need to run VRRP between between OSPF nodes, and it will probably screw things up. VRRP is used for provide a redundant default gateway to non-dynamic-routing-aware clients.

The you probably have to annonce the VRRP network under /routing ospf network
