(SOLVED) Public IP with VPLS

Wed May 23, 2012 12:00 am

Hi everybody!

We have a network that runs OSPF and MPLS. One CORE router that is conected to our ISP.
Inside a network to one of the routers (RB1) is connected a PC based server. We setup VPLS
tunnel between CORE router and RB1. On CORE router vpls interface is bridged with ISP interface
and on RB1 router vpls interface is bridged with etherenet interface to which our PC based server
is conected. Server interface has Public IP address. From Internet the server is richable just fine but
from internal routers (Mikrotiks) the Server is unrichable. :(

From the server we can conect to every router on the network but we can't get connection from
routers to the server!

What is wrong?
Please help!

P. S.
The task is to assign public IP to the server.

The problem is solved!!!

On the Core router vpls interface was removed from bridge.
Public IP was set to vpls interface with 32 bit mask and
static route was added to our server via vpls interface in routing table!!!

Thanks guys anyway =))

I am doing the same to deliver public IP's to customers in my WISP. Works great.

Some refinement to the solution.
Actually this is a classical solution to the problem of public IP assignment.
The solution is called "Proxy ARP with subnets". If you googled this, you can
find a lot of interesting information.
You must set proxy-arp on ISP interface and on vpls interface.
To vpls interface must be assign any unused privat ip address with 32-bit mask. (No matter what it will be, it won't be used any way)
The PC-server is configured with desired public-IP address and default
gateway to your ISP public-IP address.

Works great, and public-IP addresses is distributed most efficiently!!! :D
