WinBox is slow with MPLS

Sat Sep 15, 2012 9:56 pm

When we enable MPLS on a 1100AHx2, Winbox becomes slow. For example, if we open an interface to watch traffic, it updates very slow and seems to miss some periods in time. Also, with MPLS enabled we cannot access Webfig at all. There does not seem to be a performance hit on the routing.

The L2MTU of all network equipment between the routers is 1524 or larger. MPLS MTU set to 1500, we are not doing VPLS on these routers.

What may I be missing?

do the box have multiple IP addresses? I have same issue. When connecting to loopback, sometimes really slow. Connecting to some link address, and speed is ok.

also. use from port 1 ti 6. 11 to 13 seems to trigger this a lot (and about 10 times more ofen on a 1200 compared to a 1100.)

how is bandwith test to same Ip? i have about 2Mb/s TCP (still clients behind can have 30) winbox, download about 6kb/s

Yes there are multiple IP address assignments. I have configured ports 11, 12, and 13 to be ospf/mpls interfaces. Loopback0 to be the transport address. Ports 1 - 10 are for local connections.

I find that Winbox speed is the same no matter what IP I connect to.
Bandwidth speed tests are fine, to any of the IP's.
I can also ping any IP address with a full 1500 byte packet with the DF bit set. Max packet size that pings is 1508.

<edit>Forgot to mention that we are running version 5.20</edit>

hi,

exactly the same here. when you use only one switch-group,then speed is o.k. when you use both is very slow....
with an 1200 also clients behind very slow.
tested with 5.17-5.20

Changed the interfaces to use 1 through 5, and the problem has gone away.

Thanks for the responses.

all is to use. Its just better to use correct switchgroup together. Its also some kind of random sometimes. witch port that give speed and not. try to check l2mtu, and just connect in and out feed to port with same l2mtu.

Try to not use 11-12-13 if possible.

Hi! I'm trying to develop an MPLS solution with CCR1072 and CCR1009 routers, and everything seems to be working fine, except by Winbox connections, i've tried everything that you suggested here, but nothing works, i have a MPLS-MTU of 1580, an L2-MTU of 1580 and an L3-MTU of 1500.

My network includes several OSPF routers, with loopbacks, and the LDP sessions are also with the same loopback address, but when i'm trying to connect to any router inside my MPLS network, it takes until 7 to 8 seconds to open a winbox or web session, this occurs everytime, no matter if i'm connecting to a loopback address or other IP address configured directly in the physical interface, and once the winbox session is complete, everything works normally. Right now i'm using the 6.40.3 version, and i tested the MTU by pinging with 1500bytes packets without fragmenting to my routers, and the response is fine. So i don't know where can be the failure in managing this MPLS network. Can you help me with this problem?? Did it happens earlier to anybody in the forum?
