OSPF across VLANS not making sense

Sun Sep 23, 2012 10:13 pm

All,
I currently have the following setup for a new pop we are doing
2011 tower.jpg
My problem is I can not get OSPF to establish across the VLAN. If I move the IP and OSPF to one of the physical ports I can get it to establish, but not totally. The routes do not get exchanged. I can reproduce this on other locations.

The 2011 at the top is just a managed VLAN switch. Here is a compact export
/interface bridge
add l2mtu=1594 name=VLAN60BR
add l2mtu=1594 name=VLAN62BR
add l2mtu=1594 name=VLAN61BR

/interface vlan
add interface=sfp1 l2mtu=1594 name=VLAN61 vlan-id=61
add interface=sfp1 l2mtu=1594 name=VLAN60 vlan-id=60
add interface=sfp1 l2mtu=1594 name=VLAN62 vlan-id=62

/interface bridge port
add bridge=VLAN60BR interface=ether4
add bridge=VLAN61BR interface=ether7
add bridge=VLAN62BR interface=ether1
add bridge=VLAN62BR interface=ether2
add bridge=VLAN62BR interface=ether3
add bridge=VLAN62BR interface=VLAN62
add bridge=VLAN61BR interface=VLAN61
add bridge=VLAN60BR interface=VLAN60
/ip address
add address=10.249.2.101/29 interface=VLAN60BR
add address=10.249.2.237/29 interface=VLAN61BR
Here is the 2011 Router at the bottom
/interface vlan
add interface=sfp1 l2mtu=1594 name=VLAN62 vlan-id=62
add interface=sfp1 l2mtu=1594 name=VLAN60 vlan-id=60
add interface=sfp1 l2mtu=1594 name=VLAN61 vlan-id=61

set [ find default=yes ] redistribute-connected=as-type-1 redistribute-static=\
    as-type-1
/ip address
add address=10.5.152.1/28 interface=VLAN62
add address=10.249.2.233/29 interface=VLAN61

/routing ospf interface
add interface=VLAN60 network-type=point-to-point
add interface=VLAN61 network-type=point-to-point
/routing ospf network
add area=backbone
Here is the 450 at the other side
/interface vlan
add interface=ether1 l2mtu=1516 name=VLAN61 vlan-id=61
/routing ospf instance
set [ find default=yes ] redistribute-connected=as-type-1 redistribute-static=\
    as-type-1
/ip address
add address=10.249.2.236/29 comment=KAY-WINGATE interface=VLAN61

/routing ospf interface
add interface=VLAN61 network-type=point-to-point
/routing ospf network
add area=backbone network=10.249.2.232/29
What am I doing wrong?

Justin,

Even with setting your OSPF interface type to P2P, it will still use Multicast...the only advantage is that it stops doing the DR/BDR election.

I would try setting my interface types to NMBA(nonbroadcast multi access) and configuring some OSPF neighbors. This will kill multicast and switch all communication to unicast.

Let me know what that does killer.

BTW: I fixed this. I had the physical port bridged with the VLANs. Once I removed this all was good

Sorry to resurrect an old post.

CCR1009 with a DAC cable into a CRS326 switch.
5 vlan on the SFP port.
I am not able to start OSPF on vlan interface.
I can ping the remote end, I see it in ip neighbours but OSPF doesnt start.
what I am missing?

Make sure all of the parameters match on both ends:
network type (broadcast / ptp / etc)
IP network / mask
OSPF settings such as hello, hold down, timers, etc.
IP MTU on the interfaces
Make sure neither router has their interface into the network set to passive=yes

And enable ospf logging if all else fails.

I have checked it 10 times.
Network type ptp
I can ping the remote ip
I am replacing a CCR with another CCR in a tower to seperate backbone with access layer.
all conf build from scratch by hand.

I have interface UP, instance running but no packets on VLAN interface where the OSPF is in.
From the logging I see OSPF hello sent on the VLAN interface.

I have the SFP+ in trunk mode with a CRS326 switch...

I am almost sure 100% that the problem is not in the CCR but in the CRS
here is my config.

The CCR is connected via SFP+1 to the SFP+2 of the CRS with a DAC Cable.
On the switch I have:
port 7 untagged vlan 201 (going to a remote router via a licensed microwave link)
sfp+2 trunk port.

Upgraded from 6.38.7 to 6.40.3 on the switch and now it appears to work

with 6.38.7 latest bugfix it did not work.

Routers remain with 6.38.7 bugfix.
