How to route Vlans

Fri Nov 16, 2012 11:25 am

I'm starting to use vlans trought my wireless network, I can "ping" on each routerboard on the same vlan configuring the ip address into the vlan interface. But I have a main router, which also runs mikrotik. The question is: How can I route all those vlans on my mikrotik router? I tried ip address in bridges and the fisical ports, but I can't "ping" the rest of vlans in the router.

Best regards.

VLAN interfaces are (to all intents and purposes) treated exactly the same as physical interfaces. This means you have to set things up exactly as though you had a cabled connection, so 1) IP addresses/networks defined on the VLAN interfaces. 2) Routing rules configured. 3) Firewall rules correctly configured.

If you get all that right, there is no reason why it shouldn't work.

Just remember, if you're sending data over a network controlled by somebody else, VLANs won't work unless you create a tunnel.
