VPLS bonding and MUM slides

Fri Feb 15, 2013 12:32 pm

Hi,

I'm looking for bond two VPLS interface. I find the MUM presentation:

http://mum.mikrotik.com/presentations/US10/Maris.pdf

but seems that some slides are blank (the images are bot visibile).

Any advice? Do you have the working PDF ?

no ones? :)

Maybe do you have a solution for load balancing and faiover without the bonding and with MPLS/VPLS?

Not sure if this is what are you trying to do, but take a look at this:

Not sure what you are trying to accomplish, but any redundancy, failover ect. would be done apart from vpls. If you have (VPLS ptp or mesh design) and provide layer 3 redundancy below, vpls will reform, vpls runs on top of other protos. I hope this is OK, but if you could post description of the topology it would be helpful to understand.
Thanks

Hi,

I want to do a failover (and if is possible, load balacing) of a VPLS acrosso 2 wireless link.

This is my current topology:
                 / ---eth1 --link wlan2 .(vpls)...wlan2--eth1---\
 [RB750-01]| |[RB750-02]
                 \--eth2-- linkl wlan1 ...........wlan2--eth2-----/

There is a VPLS from RB750-01 to RB750-02. It is a LDP VPLS.

I want to do the failover of the VPLS using wlan1 and wlan2 (and maybe load balacing).
I dont want to use ethernet bonding, because I think i will have more control with a L3 failover

For ex. if the wireless link wlna1 does not perform good because interference but is still UP, it has packet loss, the bonding protocol at L2 "thinks" that the link is good, and continue to pass the packets. The bonding protocol detects the wireless link fail only if it isn't UP.

All advices are welcome!

Your looking for an ip sla and/or track type function.
One suggestion,
A. There are existing configurations presented by others that detail load balancing using ospf cost to manipulate traffic direction, also provides failover in event one link goes down, ospf does its normal job and routes all traffic over remaining link.

B. You should try writing a script that polls interface wlanX stats using some of the following params and on value (X) x maybe equal to the data rate, ccq, rsl and < (y) y being a threshhold value determined by you... that the script then affects the offending interface by altering path cost or perhaps just closing until value (y) is > than a rising threshold of your choice.

C. You may also post this question in other forum like routing, scripting ect. This is not really a vpls issue at all. vpls is just the transport over your links.

Best regards
