Bad subnet from ATT UVerse or did I do something wrong?

Thu Sep 19, 2013 1:53 am

Connecting ATT u-verse through a NVG510 Bridge Mode (dynamic)

I set up a RB493 with ROS 5.1.

I put a DHCP client on ether1 and received an address with /32
162.1xx.xx1.115/32
and a gateway in an adjacent /24
162.1xx.xx0.1

The route 0.0.0.0/0 showed up blue in the routes scree
Needless to say I got no connection

As a HACK I added the same address as a static with a larger netmask
162.1xx.xx1.115/23
Boom, net is up.
But this is not a permanent solution because the address is assigned DHCP.

FYI
I tried routing 0.0.0.0/0 to the interface ether1 first but that did not work.
Plugging in a windows laptop gets the same address mask and gateway, but works arg!

ANY IDEAS

When you set the Ether 1 interface as the default route did you notice if you were getting an ARP entry for the ISP gateway?

Re-reading this old post I notice that you mentioned ROS 5.1 which would be fairly old. It might be worth updating to ROS 5.26 which is the current v5 ROS - or even updating to ROS 6. AT least then you would be on versions that most of us use on a daily basis which makes it easier to compare issues.

The NVG510 doesn't do true bridge mode like before with out a firmware mod. If your using the IP Passthrough then is gives out the wrong gateway everytime. The easiest way to fix it is to root the modem and enable true bridge mode for dynamic.

In most places ATT only allows their modem (NVG510)
