Can you update CHR with a P1 license to a P Unlimited by purchasing a prepaid key?

Question is pretty straightforward - We purchased a Maxxwave Vengeance Router using CHR - it shipped with a P10 license, and we didn't realize this until we deployed it and ran into issues when the total traffic (in and out) exceeded 10 Gbps. We wanted to update the license to P Unlimited, so we contacted a vendor and bought one. It shows up in the Mikrotik account as a prepaid key (License L6/PU), but the account says "You do not have any active CHR licenses!", and there's nothing under "CHR orders and invoices".

"Make a key from a prepaid key" doesn't work, because it asks for Software ID, which isn't the same as System ID from the /system license print output. Using "Renew License" in the router just gives "Error: Could not receive your license or maybe You are already using active license". "Generate New ID" is not useful either. The documentation makes vague allusions to this sort of use case, but without the details which would allow someone to actually do it.

Is this possible to do?

Your vendor made an oopsie, as ROS and CHR licenses are totally separate and you got a ROS license instead of a CHR one.

You must go into your mikrotik account, then go into your "CHR licenses" menu on the left, find your current installation and click UPGRADE.
Then choose the desired level (P-U), then it will ask how you want to pay.
You can then select the prepaid key.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

The problem is if the CHR has a non-trial license, there is no way to do this, as the license in the router will not appear in the account, and cannot be added to the account.

So, here's what we had to do to resolve this situation:
  • Shut down the running CHR instance

    Install a brand-new CHR from OVA

    In this new CHR instance, we were able to Renew License with the Account

    Then, it allowed us to upgrade the license to P Unlimited

    And now, the license key we purchased actually gives the option to be upgraded to the P Unlimited we bought

So a giant headache, but that was a solution...

It definitely will appear in the account. There must have been some unrelated problem that caused you to resolve it this way. Even non trial licenses appear in ones account, offering the Upgrade button, if a better license level exists

It definitely will appear in the account. There must have been some unrelated problem that caused you to resolve it this way. Even non trial licenses appear in ones account, offering the Upgrade button, if a better license level exists

Let me put it this way - it is very likely that the license ID for that unit was visible in Baltic Networks's Mikrotik account, because we had purchased the pre-built router from them. It may have even been possible to have them transfer that license to our account. But, as we were in a hurry, and Baltic did not foresee the need to transfer the key to our account in advance, we were not able to use the normal method. The workaround was able to work around that issue.

Well yes, CHR needs a login name, and will show up in the account that is specified in RouterOS CHR menu. I hope your workaround will help somebody else with similar issues. My recommendation for CHR Is to have your own account and license it yourself.

I have some problem , I used the CHR is a P1 Level, I action Upgrade P10 from the MikroTik account web site already , but......... I forgot to Generate New ID for CHR, the P1 and P10 license Key is together in the same ID , can take out the P1 to Tranfer the another CHR or the P1 Prepaided key is LOST?
