Think is a bug

Thu Feb 09, 2017 9:30 am

Hello,

I tried to install and tried to resize hdd with "Hosted Cloud Router"

After 3 days after dozens of attempts I failed to install as described in the documentation or the forum.

I try to describe what have I done.

I use Vmware ESX 5.5 sp3 and Vmware workstation 12 on windows.

1. I downloaded chr-6.38.1.vmdk (I try with raw image and use qemu for resize and convert but the same)
2. I create new virtual machine (Freebsd-x64, SCSI hdd( Itry with IDE but the same...not working),1024GBram
3. I put chr-6.38.1.vmdk (replace) the file from VM (I tried with external image hdd and point the vmdk image at the creation of virtual machine)
4. Power up the virtual machine ( at the first startup i see on screen the messaging "resize hard disk")
5. After power up at the /system resource print the hdd is the same ...128MB

So...... The question is ... is right what I did the next steps?

6. I power off virtual machine with RouterOS_CHR
7. I mounted on other Linux virtual machine chr-6.38.1.vmdk
8 I power on and i did two comands:
e2fsck -f /dev/sdb2 (sdb2 is the second partition on mikrotik router image"
resize2fs /dev/sdb2
9. Power off Linux virtual machine
10.Power on RouterOS_CHR virtual machine and the size is now CORECT !!!

So...... It's ok that thicks ?

Best Regards,

Hello Mikrotik,

Unfortunately if you have problems you will stay with them.
Mikrotik will not give support for everything you need, like Cisco does. With Mikrotik, you are on your own. Ofcourse cisco price is bigger but the forum is free.

P.S. Nowhere in the documentation for CHR it is not specified does not work more than 400MB/s on Esx 5.5.

Did you buy a license for your CHR?
Did you contact support via e-mail?
Remember this is a user forum, not an access to MikroTik support.
However, I can tell you: there IS a way for end-users without expensive support contracts to actually get support.
This is not true for Cisco, I know from a lot of bad experience. All Cisco equipment here is now gone.

So....

I contacted official mikrotik support and after more testing they tell me version 7 will resolve that bug. Normally is for mikrotik to publish on site that problem and do not let the users to spent time for test.
So it would seem fair to users to inform about that.

Answer from support

Nobody can tell me if it is correct that ?

1. I downloaded chr-6.38.1.vmdk (I try with raw image and use qemu for resize and convert but the same)
2. I create new virtual machine (Freebsd-x64, SCSI hdd( Itry with IDE but the same...not working),1024GBram
