CHR or CCR1036 12G 4S

Tue Apr 11, 2017 8:03 pm

Please help me decide!!!! I want to replace pfsense as our core router/firewall with mikrotik. I am confused whether to go with CCR1036 12G 4S or CHR p1 license and a server. Our main requirements are:
1. 50-60 pcs spread over 5 subnets.
2. Campus wifi usermanager for 500 user base but 60-100 max active users (in future).
If CHR the recommend some servers as well.

May I ask why you'd want to replace pfsense? it's a firewall not a router and as such it's a really really good one.

For your routing needs it's actually a lot about the services and traffic you'll move, information that you're not providing.

Anyway, CCR1036 is after 1072 the biggest routers MikroTik offer, CHR depends entirely on the hardware you'll set it on and it also requires a hypervisor. Usually any server x86 CPU will be a lot faster than any CCR, but again, your needs dictate what you should get.

CCR 1036 should work just fine for that amount of users.
