Poor WAN speed with CHR on AWS

Thu Aug 13, 2020 11:31 pm

Hi, I've a CHR on AWS using a t3.micro instance (ENA supported). The CHR instance has a network interface on a private subnet (acting as my LAN on my VPC) and another network interface from another subnet acting as WAN (it has an Elastic IP address). On this CHR we've an OpenVPN tunnel established working fine, at last it's connected with my on-premise LAN, my routing tables know how to route traffic between my hosts and ping work fine in both ways, but..... the WAN bandwidth is very poor, as bad as it almost unable to work with it.

It's normal this behavior? any idea or suggestion to improve the WAN bandwidth?

Try pinging through the tunnel with different sized packets and don't fragment option to find the right MTU and set it as Max MTU (should be lower then 1500).
