KVM image on USB?

Fri Apr 04, 2014 3:18 pm

Hi,

I'm testing RouterOS and have installed it on a USB drive in the computer.

I can successfully create the image, but can not start the KVM as I can only select from "cdrom, sdX, hdX" the image / whatever I select the machine is not started.

Any suggestion?

Thanks!

KVM image has to be located in host RouterOS file-system. it is not possible to load directly from the storage medium.

However, you can save image file on the USB (formatted for RouterOS) and read image file directly from there.

The USB is the media on which the ROS is installed and booted from; therefor I think it should be identified as "sda" or "hda" ?

you do not have such kind of access to the USB from within the routeros.

Best bet for you is to create an image file and then write it back to your USB. It will render USB to not to be bootable without some kind of VMS (ex KVM)

"Fixed" it so that I replaced the USB drive with a SATA drive - now it works.
