Powering RB260GS from PoE

Wed Jul 20, 2016 12:23 pm

I just need some consulting, which hardware to buy.

It is said RB260GS (not P) switch could receive power from passive PoE 1st copper port. Which injector should I use, will RBGPOE do the work? Which power supply should I plug into injector? There is 12V power supply included with the switch, is it enough (assuming the cable will have some losses, and switch is said to work from 6V)?

I suggest Mikrotik staff to document this topic more thoroughly. Also if I am correct, it is worth adding a link to this injector to the RB260GS page into "Related products" section.

You can use 9 - 30V power supply on eth 1 port. And yes,  RBGPOE do the work.
I suggest you to use power supply with larger allowable voltage value (24 - 30V) so cable losses to be as small as possible.
Anyway, 12V power supply included is quite enough to be used with POE injector RBGPOE on 1st port.

Hi.
And what if I will plug ETH1 of RB260 to some PoE Switch with 802.3af / 802.3at? Because of passive PoE I am afraid auto-negotiation will fail to set proper voltage? Or it will work OK?

802.3af / 802.3at is 48V (actually can be between 36-57V), so it is too much for RB260.
