Switch OS 2.1 -- Warning: do not attempt RB260GSP CSS106-1G-4P-1S upgrade over POE Port

Wed Apr 19, 2017 10:12 pm

Good work guys. Just downloaded SwitchOS 2.1 from the downloads page an tried to apply it to a new RB260GSP that was running 2.0. Seemingly bricked the switch. Now I've got 2 hours of driving ahead of me to fix this. Thanks.

Congrats on being the first. Why not just put the switch into TFTP mode and upload the firmware? Not sure why you would have to drive two hours to do that. Or did you really update the firmware remotely without testing on a local device?

No, I really did do that, and I deserve the criticism. We've been having such trouble getting RB260GSs and RB260GSPs that this was our only v2 switch and it was deployed. I'm back from swapping it for one of the many "bad" RB260GSPs we've been saddled with over the past year that pass traffic & POE, but can't be logged into or configured.

The v2 RB260GSP, after the v2.1 upgrade, now exhibits the following problems:

Won't pass traffic on port 1
POE permanently disabled on the other ports.

I can talk to the switch over port 5 and I'd like to try to downgrade back to v2.0. Anyone know where I can find that firmware? It's not at https://www.mikrotik.com/download

Failing that, I'll try a reset next.

I'm not sure where the archive for SwitchOS is. But I would try to reset defaults and see if that helps. It sounds like the config corrupted in the upgrade.

You can find most old versions of MT sw by changing the url:

https://download2.mikrotik.com/swos/2.0 ... 1s-2.0.bin

Thank you. Version 2.0 brought the switch back to life.

Just FYI: the POE outputs remained disabled on the RB260GSP (CSS106-1G-4P-1S) with SwitchOS 2.1 even after a full reset.

gharris999, try to repeat v2.1 upgrade once more when you have already upgraded to SwOS v2.1.
If the PoE-out problems will persist, I would recommend to report this to support@mikrotik.com

I've now successfully updated this RB260GSP CSS106-1G-4P-1S over a non-POE port. The fault seems to occur when attempting an upgrade when access to the switch is via a POE powered-on port. In our case, this makes remote upgrades of these switches impossible.

gharris999, we will work on to improve it to make upgrade also possible through devices which use CSS106-1G-4P-1S PoE-out.

Yesterday we have tried to upgrade few CSS326 from v2.0 to v2.1 but were not able to do so. The switches are not connected to the internet so we did the manual upgrade. After reboot the software version remained the same. Do I need the internet connection to upgrade to v2.1? Thanks.

No. I've updated to 2.1, downgraded to 2.0 and again updated to 2.1 CSS326 without problem from Web GUI (Upgrade menu). Device automatically rebooted with upgraded/downgraded version.
