SWOS to ROS

Thu Aug 17, 2017 5:18 pm

HI, I have a RB260GS with SWOS. It looks like a BASIC version of ros then I would like to know if it's possible to upload RouterOS inside the RB260 then used winbox and all other features.

thank you

No. The RB260 is a switch, not a router. Needs to use a switch operating system.

The CRS112 is a router that can play like a switch. The RB260 is only a switch. In what is unique, the CRS326-24G-2S+RM can run either RouterOS or SwitchOS. There is a logical "switch" that determines which it boots into.

CRS112 is a device with dual-personality. You can decide if it behaves more as pure switch or as a router.
RB260 does not belong to this category.

Please define "powerful".
Usually devices having switch chips inside run at wire speed. You can not get more switching power than that.
It depends on what features you need in your particular case. Hybrid devices provide some additional switching and routing functions, too. But don't expect miracles. For plain switching with VLAN support and STP, the 260GS is as powerful as it might get for a 5G + 1S switch.
