RB260GS does not like version 2.7

Sat Dec 23, 2017 12:27 am

Have a new RB260GS switch that I first change the IP address to I can use it in my network.
After that I change the admin password.
Everything looks nice until I download and upgrade the switch to 2.7, after that I have no access to the switch SwOS so I have to do a reset.
I have try this three times now but same result.

Not sure what I can do but I have to wait a little. I'm not going to use the switch until next year anyway.

Pay attention, we have:
  • version 1.17 for RB260GS, RB260GSP
  • version 2.7 for new RB260GS(CSS106-5G-1S), new RB260GSP(CSS106-1G-4P-1S)

In case you have CSS106-5G-1S or CSS106-1G-4P-1S, can you post us output from console? From which version you are trying to upgrade device?

Hi and thanks for the replay

Sorry that I'm so late to replay.

My is RB260GS (CSS106-5G-1S)
And I did download from
version 2.7 for new RB260GS(CSS106-5G-1S), new RB260GSP(CSS106-1G-4P-1S)
The current version is 2.0p (built at Fri Oct 21 2016) and it say "Latest Available Version" is 2.6 (built at Mon Oct 16 2017)

Tried to upload the new version (2.7) manually.
The update procedure hangs, the switch does not respond to ping and not accessible via web interface but works as a switch somehow anyway - i.e. it passes a traffic.
When I power off the switch and power on it again, then the switch is available again with the same firmware (i.e. 2.4).

We can not repeat your mentioned issue, all works smoothly for us. Note that since SwOS v2.5 address acquisition mode by default is DHCP with fallback to static address. That means switch may have different IP after first upgrade from v2.4 to v2.5/2.6 if there is DHCP server in network.
If you sill can not manage your device to work properly, we would like to see console output when problem is present.

No.

1. Device:
RB260GS.
Current version is 2.4.
CSS106-5G-1S.

2. IP address = 192.168.1.200 (specified in System -> General).
No DHCP support in provided in 2.4.
So the address is always 192.168.1.200.

3. How I tried to upgrade:
Upgrade -> Manual Upgrade -> select "swos-css1061g4p1s-2.7.bin".

4. Then the web page becomes not accessible.
No ping to 192.168.1.200.
But all the devices connected to the switch - are still working.

5. I power down and then power off the switch - ant it becomes available again on 192.168.1.200.
And SwOS is still 2.4.

You said that IP address changed since after SwOS is upgraded.
Not true - in this case the switch will not recover its IP to 192.168.1.200 after reset (power off, power on).
Moreover - SwOS is NOT CHANGED, it is still 2.4.

So please find out a reason of this glitches.
If any logs are required - please tell us how to acquire these logs.

Also, try to update your test switch from 2.4 to 2.7.

That's not what he said. With v2.5+ IP is retrieved via DHCP and only if that fails, switch uses the preconfigured address.
So if you have a DHCP server in your network (basically all home routers include one and have it enabled by default), configure the DHCP server to hand out the wanted IP address, based on the switch's management MAC address (see system tab).

I think you did not get a point.
Whether IP address of the switch was assigned by DHCP or set manually in SwOS settings or set automatically to some value - the switch will not recover MY ADDRESS after restart.

Hello All,
I am having the same issue. My firmware is 2.0p and I can upgrade to 2.2 but if i try to upgrade to 2.7 the web interface crashes and I have to do a reset to get access back. The switch still seems to work but the ping times are very long.

I have not been able to find the older firmware version so i can see if i step through the version it could allow me to upgrade to 2.7. The hardware is the later model.

Has anyone found a solution or work around? Can we get access to all the previous version of the firmware so I can try loading each one to see if i can get to the latest that way?

Thanks for any help that is pushed my way.

Regards,
Robert.

2.4 is currently installed on my 2 switches.
None of them can't be upgraded to 2.7.
When I try to upload 2.7 - web access crashes, only switch off/on helps - and SwOS is again 2.4.

It is so sad that Mikrotik dev team does not care about this issue.
Shame on them, very disappointed.

"working fine" - what about multicast, does it work on 2.7 ?

Re: RB260GS does not like version 2.7

First, I tried to upload 2.7 from 2.4 - it did not succeed:
viewtopic.php?f=17&t=128930&p=644946#p637527
- web access hung after “Upgrade” button;
- after power off/power on – it was again SwOS 2.4.
IP address of the switch did not change during this process.

Now I tried to reset the switch first:
- reset the switch according to the manual: "Hold this button during boot time longer, until LED starts to bling twice as fast, and then release it to make the device wait for TFTP firmware upgrade”;
- assigned 192.168.88.2 to my PC;
- opened the web access (192.168.88.1);
- the switch was again with SwOS 2.0;
- manually uploaded 2.7 to the switch;
- GREAT!!! Now the switch was with SwOS 2.7.

So, the trick was to RESET THE SWITCH first.
But it should not be so tricky anyway…

And here some observations:

1. Regarding obtaining the address from DHCP by default – as far as I can see, the default values after upgrading to 2.7 were:
- “DHCP with fallback”
- static = 192.168.88.1
That means that after upgrade procedure the address will be always 88.2 (if your PC is only connected to the switch, not some router with DHCP).

2. Let’s select “DHCP only” mode.
Although the router has a rule for the switch’s MAC – the switch does not obtain IP address anyway.
The previous address 192.168.88.1 is not pinged, the expected address (specified by router) is not pinged too, and I guess that the switch does not get ANY address – no DHCP leases are reported by the router.
So it seems that the “DHCP only” mode doesn’t work.

3. The most disappointing thing – multicast still does not work (since 2.5).
Reverted back to 2.4 (easy and not so tricky as 2.4->2.7 upgrade) – and multicast works again ))))

I'm having the same problem.

CSS106 2.4=>2.7 manual upgrade.

I was able to upgrade after resetting, as mentioned above, but I reset the config using the 2.4 web interface. (switch is remote).
Switch reverts to 192.168.88.1 and then upgrade works.

Without a reset, I doubt Mikrotik can fix this, since the solution is the problem: Upgrade.

There is fix since 2.5 with your mentioned issue:
  • CSS106: fixed upgrading (to upgrade from v2.5 hit upgrade & then after a while reboot);

We cannot upgrade our devices from 2.4 to 2.7, after pressing upgrade the web interface indicates upgrade in progress but the browse button for the upgrade file changes to the page title in an iframe where you can see the MikroTik logo and the logoff button. The upgrade never seems to happen. The web interface continues to respond after this. What do we do to upgrade these units?

Have you tried these steps, info from Wiki - https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/SwOS/CSS106#Reset
The CSS106-5G-1S and CSS106-1G-4P-1S has built-in backup SwOS firmware which can be loaded in case standard firmware breaks or upgrade fails:
  • Holding Reset button for few seconds while device is booting resets configuration and loads backup firmware SwOS 2.0p.
  • After loading backup firmware SwOS 2.0p it is possible to connect to 192.168.88.1 using web browser and install new SwOS firmware.
