CSS326-24G-2S+RM power consumption question

Sat Feb 17, 2018 8:16 pm

Hi,

I'm planning to buy CSS326-24G-2S+RM switch but I'd like to know how energy efficient is it? Does it support Energy Efficient Ethernet 802.3az standard? Does power consumption depend on amount of ports used at the time? I know according to specifications max is 19W but the best would be if someone could share his real world experiences of how much power it takes when only a few ports are connected or even when it's idle/not heavily used.

Thanks a lot.

Measured this device on the bench today as we are placing it in battery-float operation.

Idle, all ports disabled (w/no physical connections): 0.40A @ 13.8 VDC
Idle, all ports enabled (none connected): 0.40A @ 13.8 VDC
Idle, one port enabled (w/ one connected at 1 GB): 0.42A @ 13.8 VDC
Idle, all ports enabled (w/one connected at 1 GB): 0.42A @ 13.8 VDC

So, this draws 5.5 watts and 5.8 watts with one cable connected. Presumably each additional connection would add 0.02A (20 milliamps) each. The math would indicate 0.88A max at 13.8 VDC, or 12.1 watts. Specifications indicate 19 watts maximum.

Seems efficient, and has no fan (so no potential fan failures), and generates zero noise. And has a power cord tie-down. But I would prefer 16 ports at less power, and screw terminals with a removable plug for power.
