CSS326-24G slow inter-VLAN transfers

Thu May 02, 2019 12:37 pm

Hi

I could do with some help.
office NAS - VLAN40
office PC - VLAN20

office NAS is connected to CSS via bonded connection
CSS is connected to CCR1016 via bonded connection

with this configuration my transfer speed between PC and NAS is around 10MB/s
If I edit the NAS ports to be on VLAN20 my transfer speed goes up to 60MB/s

can anyone help me to understand why? I have tried disabling all firewall rules and also I have disabled ip firewall in the CCR and it has made no difference.

Thanks

Jonni

further to my previous email
if I transfer between 2 PC's across the network I get around 200MB/s speed
if I connect my MacBook (with SSD) direct to NAS I get 80-90MB/s

I don't understand why my performance to the NAS is so poor over the network - I can transfer files between computers over the network without any issues.

thank you

You asked this question in the SwitchOS section of the forum and your subject specifies the CSS326 switch. However, since you are seeing an inter-VLAN issue, the problem almost certainly exists in the router and not the switch - since switches don’t route between VLANs. You did not give us much detail on your network layout. For example, are the various PCs that you tested with plugged into the CSS326 or the CCR1016, or something else? What speed are the various connections? You said that the CSS326 to NAS and also the CCR1016 to CSS326 connections are bonded connections - what kind of bond? Also a sanity check - you listed transfer speeds as MB/s. Confirm you mean MegaBytes per second as opposed to Megabits per second (normally abbreviated Mb/s). You would be amazed how many people mix those up.

Hi, thanks for your response,

To answer:
The PC's are all connected to the CSS
Both bonds are 802.3ad
The speeds are indeed MB/s
Additionally all our cabling is Cat6 and all GigE NIC's

i had a look at MTU settings and on the NAS it is set to 1500 - as you said it seems to be a configuration setting in the router but i am lost as to what it may be - i have printed below

any guidance would be much appreciated. everything works ok its just the transfers to and from the NAS
