CSS106-1G-4P-1S (RB260GSP) link speed changing

Sat Sep 12, 2020 3:26 pm

Hi,

I have a CSS106-1G-4P-1S with wAP ac connected to it.
The switch shows that the speed is changing sometimes to even as low as 10mb, usually to 100mb and when I reset it, it might negotiate it back to 1000mb.

I just opened the web interface, I see that it is 100mb again.

So I check the wAP ac via SSH and it shows:
/interface ethernet monitor 0
                      name: ether1
                    status: link-ok
          auto-negotiation: done
                      rate: 100Mbps
               full-duplex: yes
           tx-flow-control: no
           rx-flow-control: no
               advertising: 10M-half,10M-full,100M-half,100M-full,1000M-half,1000M-full
  link-partner-advertising: 10M-half,10M-full,100M-half,100M-full
I go back to the switch, uncheck "auto negotiate" and try to force it back to 1000mbps, the link never goes up.
I enable "auto negotiate" again and it negotiates it back to 1000mbps.

And wAP ac shows:
/interface ethernet monitor 0
                      name: ether1
                    status: link-ok
          auto-negotiation: done
                      rate: 1Gbps
               full-duplex: yes
           tx-flow-control: no
           rx-flow-control: no
               advertising: 10M-half,10M-full,100M-half,100M-full,1000M-half,1000M-full
  link-partner-advertising: 10M-half,10M-full,100M-half,100M-full,1000M-full
My monitoring system reveals that it takes exactly 45 minutes for the switch to lose the link to the wAP ac and revert the speed from 1000mbps to 100mbps.

So, what's going on here?

Most likely bad cabling or connections somewhere. I have this issue with one of my ports in my house, but it isn't limited to Mikrotik products.

In my case it is an rj45 connector that needs to be replaced. I can jiggle it and get it to stay at 1G, so not a priority to fix.

Yeah, I was hoping it would be a software issue for some reason.
I'll try it with other network equipment, if the issue persists, I have to redo the connectors.

If the port was flapping, it could be due to an issue with some rstp configs in swos 2.12 - you can try 2.11 to see if that helps.

I don't have RSTP enabled anywhere, as I don't need it.

I tried the connection with Netgear switch, it had trouble to get even some kind of connection.

So I think I have to redo the connectors :(
