CSS610-8G-2S+IN No Link with Cisco H10GB-ACU10M Active DAC

Tue Mar 16, 2021 2:54 pm

I've got this new switch, and I'm wondering about compatibility with this 10M active DAC cable. I can use an ACU3M passive cable just fine. I have two ConnectX3-EN Mellanox adapters, and if I connect the 10M directly between the adapters, I can get a link. But the SFP+ cage on the switch doesn't light up if I use the 10M on the switch, and the adapter doesn't see a link. I've tried 2.12 (which the switch came with), 2.13rc12 and 2.13 final and none of them work. I have seen people use the 10M on some various CRS switches, so I figured it would work here too as I can't use a cable under 21 feet in length to get where I need it to go. As others have reported, the switch doesn't show any Health tab or anything like that, so I can't see if it's reporting any information for that cage. Both SFP1 and SFP2 don't show anything in the SFP tab, even though the 3M link is up and online.

Any suggestions?

Just to update for anyone following, splurged on fiber and FS.com SFP-10GSR-85 transceivers, and they didn't work. ConnectX-3 cards use all of the cables (passive and Active DAC cables) as well as the fiber modules without issue. Only thing the switch detects is the 3 meter Passive DAC cable so far...

Strange, I haven't had anything not working with the switch except my Intel x520 NICs.

I have successfully used:
1m Dell DAC cable
15m Cisco DAC cable
Intel SR SFP+
Cisco SR SFP+
FS.com Generic coded SR SFP+
Unknown brand cisco compatible SR SFP+

FWIW, my CSS610 has been recognizing and running well with
- Intel E10GSFPSR
- Mellanox MFM1T02A-SR
(these are both Finisar manufactured at a guess)
- FS.com NETGEAR AGM731F Compatible 1000BASE-SX SFP

The Intel optics can be had for maybe $10 USD each on the 'bay.

You have successfully gotten a 15M Cisco Active DAC cable to connect? Or was it an Active Optical Cable? Still strange that the Cisco 10M Active DAC doesn't work but the Cisco 3M Passive DAC I have does. My FS.com SR SFP is Cisco coded and doesn't work with the switch. I wonder if it is just the switch. I'd love to engage with Mikrotik, but they haven't even responded to my 2 week old ticket.

I just double checked for you and sorry it was not a 15m but a passive 10m. Cisco branded but shows as Tyco in SwOS.

Would I be able to bother you for a part number? I had no idea they made passive DAC but it would support the fact my 3M cable works. Not sure why the switch wouldn’t work with an active DAC being that Mikrotik sells them.

Hi, for some reason I cant upload a picture here, it says unable to move file.

The part number I have that works is SFP-H10GB-ACU10M other labels are 37-1150-01 and COPQAA9JAA.

So you have the exact cable I have except mine is revision 2, 37-1150-02. The only thing I could find between them was that rev 2 got a pull down resistor fix for Dell EMC Unity because rev 1 didn't have the proper value and would cause erratic port flapping. So if anything Rev 2 should be more reliable. I'm starting to think my switch is just a bad switch at this point. it sure would be nice if Mikrotik would at least acknowledge something and offer support.

As a final update to this thread, and after a long wait to get an RMA'd switch replacement I finally got a new switch today. Yes, the original support case was opened back in March with Mikrotik. The new switch has resolved the issue. The new switch arrived with SwOS Lite 2.12 just like the old switch. I was able to successfully test my active DAC cable, passive DAC cable, and 8 different fiber SFPs, which I was not able to do on 2.12 before (only the passive DAC cable worked and nothing else). Management over SFP+ did not work. I upgraded the switch to the current 2.14 release, and then management access over SFP+ worked, as well as chassis temperature. Everything seems to be functioning as it should, so there was definitely a physical issue with the last switch, not just a firmware issue.
