Instable connection to device on other switch

Tue Jul 27, 2021 4:37 pm

Hi,

I am having a weird issue with my VLAN. with the following topology:
vlan-switches.drawio.png
I have one device connected to C which is mostly unrechable, and I don't know why.

The switches A, B, and C are connected to trunk which serves VLAN 10. I can reliably connect to all devices behind switch A, but I cannot reliably reach 10.10.10.61 behind switch C.

From 10.10.10.151 icmp_seq=130 Destination Host Unreachable
From 10.10.10.151 icmp_seq=132 Destination Host Unreachable
From 10.10.10.151 icmp_seq=133 Destination Host Unreachable
64 bytes from 10.10.10.61: icmp_seq=135 ttl=64 time=0.591 ms
64 bytes from 10.10.10.61: icmp_seq=151 ttl=64 time=0.620 ms
64 bytes from 10.10.10.61: icmp_seq=166 ttl=64 time=0.429 ms
64 bytes from 10.10.10.61: icmp_seq=182 ttl=64 time=0.337 ms
64 bytes from 10.10.10.61: icmp_seq=198 ttl=64 time=0.460 ms
64 bytes from 10.10.10.61: icmp_seq=213 ttl=64 time=0.661 ms
64 bytes from 10.10.10.61: icmp_seq=229 ttl=64 time=0.312 ms
From 10.10.10.151 icmp_seq=230 Destination Host Unreachable
From 10.10.10.151 icmp_seq=231 Destination Host Unreachable
From 10.10.10.151 icmp_seq=232 Destination Host Unreachable
The switches are all configured the same way: eth2 is the trunk port and eth3/eth4 are access ports for VLAN 10. I did this under VLAN
  • eth2 as trunk, eth3/4 as access port for VLAN 10
  • VLAN → eth2: VLAN enabled, only tagged, egress add if missing
  • VLAN → eth3/4: VLAN enabled, only untagged, VLAN ID 10, egress always strip
  • VLANs: VLAN10 with all Not a Member except for eth2 (add) and eth3/4 (strip)
When I connect device 61 to switch B, I can reliably reach it.
When I connect my laptop to the ethernet cable which device 61 is connected to, I cannot reliably reach all other devices.
When I connect my laptop to switch C (actually to a Netgear switch in-between which device 61 is connected to), I cannot reliably reach device 61,
but when I replace switch B with switch C and still have the laptop connected to the Netgear switch, I can reliably reach other devices. So it must be an issue with switch C.

This is the configuration backup:

Is there something wrong with my configuration?

Also, how can I debug this type of problems? I cannot see anything in Wireshark except that I don't get a ping reply except for some rare cases.

Thanks,
Simon

PS: After upgrading the software from 2.7 to 2.13 and loading the configuration from the working switch, everything works fine.
