SwOS v1.7 critical bug!

Mon Mar 04, 2013 9:48 am

SwOS v1.7 has an ACL bug. Many rules can brick the switch!

Those who have RB260GS, do not use ACL rules in SwOS v1.7. Do not downgrade to 1.6 (not possible!)
Those who have RB250GS, do not upgrade to SwOS v1.7. Those who have upgraded, better downgrade back to v1.6

Very soon new SwOS version will be released with critical bug fixes in ACL and fixes for RB260GS.

When will we see the corrected version? Unfortunately, in version 1.6 does not perform as well as several jumps NV2. In version 1.7 speed was great with NV2, but again there was some connection drops, which were blamed for the bugs.
So I'm looking forward to 1.8 to use the full potential of NV2.

okoun, SwOS is a Switch operating system. There is no Nv2 in SwOS. Please clarify what is not working so good.

I do not know what has been changed in version 1.7 compared to 1.6 but when I loaded version 1.7 on our main switch at the gateway to the Internet, so it was clear dramatic speed improvement on TCP. This is but knowing NV2 after a few jumps.
With version 1.6 I had a speed of 5 jumps around 20Mb with version 1.7 of the speed was around 60Mb TCP!, all measured at 4 TCP connections.
When I was forced to put back version 1.6 because 1.7 was unstable, so the speed went back again to 20Mb, so I figured out that the problem in SWOS.
That is why so fast strive to version 1.8

I receive pre-release of SwOS v1.8

What's new in 1.8:
*) fixed problem - Switch could become bricked if too many ACL
rules were created (more than 12);
*) make SFP LED work on RB260;
*) make VLANs work on SFP port as well (RB260 only);
*) make SNMP report info about all 6 ethernet ports on RB260;

But backup after adding several ACL still don't work.

SwOS v1.8 pre-release is available from these links. (changelog is in previous post)

RB250GS: http://www.mikrotik.com/download/share/ ... 50_1_8.lzb

RB260GS: http://www.mikrotik.com/download/share/ ... 60_1_8.lzb

* This version has been successfully tested with 30 ACL rules (MAC + IP) on both RB250GS and RB260GS.
* Backup with ACL rules is not fixed yet.

Your feedback will be appreciated.

Nice to see , that there are pre-release for open testing, Mikrotik FTW :)

I have upgraded my RB250GS from 1.7 to this 1.8 pre release, standard tasks are working as expected so far. I do not use acls, so i can not give feedback on this.

Today's version fixes this bug.
Download address is the same, but the file is replaced.

Old bugs still exist, but RB260GS is now usable. :)

Well, since my reseller (after replacing my bricked ones) has no more stock, i won't risk bricking another one just for the kicks. For me 1.6 it is.

It's been some time it was announced that version 1.8 will be released soon and so far nothing. Does anyone know when the world will be the final 1.8?

Hello,

on my RB250GS, the above updated version works as it should, but this device does not use any advanced options, simple vlan and gigabit stuff, no acls or so.

I will update my new RB260GS today and test the above 1.8 firmware.

EDIT: Upgrade on RB260GS done, now version 1.8 (latest pre-release i hope). All fine for now, Standard functions are ok, SFP is displayed nicely. I will test this more in the evening
EDIT2: snmp shows bad interface count (already mentioned here in this forum)

Issues i found so far with 1.8 for RB260GS:

1. SNMP IfIndex is wrong (5 should be 6)

WRONG:
IF-MIB::ifNumber.0 = INTEGER: 5
Should be:
IF-MIB::ifNumber.0 = INTEGER: 6
2. Webinterface/ SNMP Contact Field
The snmp contact is shortend on save, that field should be saved with longer values, i use normally here "Name <eMail@Domain.tld>" but actually, this is cut in the middle after saving and that cutted value is also propagated through snmp.

downloaded today http://www.mikrotik.com/download/share/ ... 60_1_8.lzb and upgraded RB260GS with absolute default config from 1.7.
Now I can not log in anymore. If username admin and password empty is entered, it just ask again, and again, until red "ERROR:Wrong password" appears. Like there is some other password set or something ... Did hardware reset, but result is same ...

What now?

After upgrade have a need for power-off and power-on.

From my tests: If you have ACL before upgrade to v1.8 - switch have a need to reset to default. If not - after power restart - all is ok.

device was new and configuration was exactly like new device is in the box. First thing I did after login, was upgrade. Power off/on does not help.

Power off/on does not help.
Try to clear browser cache, next - browser restart and after that try to login again.

I should of describe all things what I already tried. Another browser (upgraded with IE5, tried with latest FireFox, (as far I know, those two does not share cache in any way)) does not help. Connected another computer directly to the RB260GS, tried with IE and FF, but nothing, I simple can't log in.

Last solution - try reinstall with DHCP/TFTP describe here: http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/SwOS#Rein ... S_firmware

well, even if that will resolve current problem (what is unlikely, because firmware works and hardware reset should remove password anyway), this is not a solution. I have several RB260GS waiting to be tested and I need to use them by hundreds (as RB250GS are nowhere to get anymore). Before I brick another device, I need a definite answer, is latest firmware somehow broken or I did something wrong. My best bet right now is, that somebody did build new firmware lately (today?) and forget to reset default password.

Another bug in version 1.8 is that the logout button simply doesn't work.

And the firmware lacks support for editable port description. It's so basic and I don't understand why it's not yet implemented...

It is fixed in 1.9

What's new in 1.9:

*) fixed problem - RB260G wasn't reachable over VLAN;
*) power down port when it is disabled;
*) fixed problem - logout did not work;

I've just updated 40 RB250GS switches from 1.14 to 1.17 (didn't see this critical bug thread first). None of them have any ACL rules, but 5 of them have 'disappeared' from the network following the upgrade. They drop out of the winbox list, they no longer respond over the http interface, and a ping to their IP address yields no reply. The 5 port lights on all of them stay dark, but they are still passing packets and both the PWR and ACT on the front panel still light up. I've tried a reset to no effect. Now I see that I've had the same results with an RB260GS as well...

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Stuart
