Mix untagged/tagged (access/trunk) VLANs on same port?

Tue Dec 24, 2013 9:22 pm

Sorry for posting a question that has come up on a number of other threads, but looking for clarity on the latest status.

Elsewhere, I use HP Procurve 2600 series switches which can mix both untagged and tagged VLANs on the same port, no issue.

I bought one of the RouterBOARD SwOS products assuming it would be capable of the same, but it appears that you cannot tag VLANs on an access port and vice-versa.

What I'm looking for is, for example

Port 1 untagged vlan 10 (client PC)
Port 2 untagged vlan 10 (client PC)
Port 3 untagged vlan 10 tagged vlans 20 40 60 80 100 (cisco aironet 1231, native vlan 10)
Port 4 untagged vlan 10 tagged vlan 20 (mitel 5312 phone - voice tagged vlan 20, pc port using vlan 10)
Port 5 tagged vlans 10 20 40 60 80 100 (trunk to RB750)

Ports 1, 2, 5 I can configure no issue.
Unable to get ports 3 & 4 working as required.

Hi!

I had a very similar problem and I managed to find a combination of the settings than worked for me.

In my case Port 1 untagged is to go to VLAN 100, Port 1 also can receive tagged frames from VLAN 200.
Port 2 is to operate in untagged mode in VLAN 200
The rest of the ports to operate in VLAN 100.

Here's the screnshoots:

VLANS tab:

The only weird thing is that the switch reports all the learned MAC addresses to belong to no VLAN but I checked with Wireshark and everything works as it should:

I use the latest SwOS 1.10

Hope this helps

Thanks, I'll give that a try when I get a moment.
