Feature request - button "power cycle" for each PoE Port

Tue Dec 09, 2014 8:15 pm

It would be nice to have a "power cycle" button for each PoE Port on the switch. At the moment you have to click the drop-down field, select "off", click "apply all" and wait for PoE to be turned off, then select drop-down field again, select "auto" or "on", click "apply all" and wait again.

Would be much easier with a power cycle function which turns off power on the specific port for 5 seconds and the return power again.

And also a ping watchdog per port to automatically cycle a port if the connected device is not responding.

It would be also nice to have power cycle button for whole device, because when you do shutdown there is no way to remotely start the router and sometimes simple restart is not enough.

But I think the reason they do this is to turned on always and forever :lol: , like Ethernet Switch which they tie the power cord so that you can't plug it out.

Having a power-cycle option doesn't just make things easier; in some cases it's the only solution.

Suppose the router that you need to power-cycle at a remote location owns the location's backhaul connection. If you only have power-off and power-on options, and no atomic power-cycle option, what happens when you try to power-cycle this device?
  • You send the RB260GSP a power-off command for the appropriate port;
  • The RB260GSP powers down the router;
  • Your connection to the location is severed; and
  • You drive to the site to power it back on.

Power cycle is implemented in console in Winbox.
Here is the screenshot from Winbox.
Do you have any problems with it?

power-cycle command documentation:
(http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Po ... t_settings).

Port monitoring with ping and automatic power-cycle is implemented as
well in console. We will update the documentation.

My previous post applies for RouterBOARDs and MikroTik RouterOS.
We will add it to SwOS, when new version will be released (not expected soon), thank you for the request.

You didn't understand. I meant to self power cycle like combination of shut down and start commands. Not to interrupt outgoing poe. This is something really different. Or you can at least implement wake on lan function to start the devices that were shut down but are still under power.

Would it be possible to get an HTTP request we can send to the SWos to power off or poweron the POE on a port. I am using RB260GSP as a light switch on led lights and it works great but I have so far to remove power on the switch or manually log to the switch which makes no sense.

Did SwitchOS ever get power cycle ping?

Just had a board lock up. My RB750 and others have power cycle ping enabled. My 260GSP doesn't.
