Feature request: Stateful HA with Conntrackd

Thu Apr 03, 2014 12:44 am

In several situations I would find extremely useful to be able to share the states between two redundant devices. Is there any chance this could be added in RouterOS (maybe with conntrackd / conntrack-tools)?

With using VRRP and OnMaster/OnBackup scripting you could essentially have stateful HA.

no, with scripts you can't sync the connection tracking.

+1 for stateful connection tracking (along with dhcp leases, hotspot auths) perhaps a master-slave setup would be more likely possible.

This is so much better than VRRP and so forth.

maybe. if they pack nftables in ROS7 along with new routing engine. its converges iptables, ip6tables, arptables, ebtables feats TOGETHER both for routing AND firewalling, with generalised tracking(no "per protocol" mess), rather scalable JIT and human-readable(especially for anyone w/o netfilter/iptables experience).
https://wiki.nftables.org/wiki-nftables ... ftables%3F
https://wiki.nftables.org/wiki-nftables ... g/nftables
https://wiki.debian.org/nftables
http://netfilter.org/projects/nftables/
judging from kernel code update - there was many-core systems -aimed changes, that include network stack, including relevant to subject simplicifications of, but thats relatively newer(than expected to)kernel that would be in ROS7, then and not panace(or compelte solution by itself)at all.

+1 great idea
sync all things, like: dhcp leases, hotspot auth., ... and so RouterOS version upgrade simultaneously.

I have seen many problems blocking VOIP trafic as soon as there is NAT and redundant links.

The solution is native IPv6 but we are still far from a global IPv6 world, specially inside the LAN. And some area are still mostly IPv4, for example the LTE / smartphones market where IPv4 is most of the time the only alternative.

In the meantime, some workarounds with scripts are necessary.

NAT and connection tracking is a hassle with complex redundant setups. This is probably because NAT has never been designed with redundant setups using routing and redundant links.
