Feature Request: Apply Configuration

Mon Oct 26, 2015 11:56 am

Can we have an Apply Configuration feature in Winbox?

This feature is to TEST newly configured setting, for example:

We did some mistake, we removed default route 0.0.0.0/0, but thank goodness if we had Apply button on Winbox, the router (yes on router's side) will only test the newly applied config for 5 seconds (which can be configurable), and will revert back to it's original state.

And then from the terminal/ssh/telnet/console side, a new prefix command such as:

apply ip route disable 0

Same condition, after x seconds, it will be reverted back.

Both Winbox and Terminal/Console timer will be done on the router's side, so the router will do the revert in case this feature/command is applied.

Because we will notice, oops with this command, my router just disconnected and I really almost accidentally deleted my own default route. Thanks to this 'apply' or 'test' command I'm now able to reconnect and could regain access again to my router (in this scenario, we were connected from remote / WAN side)

Thank you for considering, if anyone think this idea is great or has another opinion, feel free to post your comments, or just reply.

There is already safe mode which does exactly the same.

Hi mrz,

Yeah, but even though the function is almost same, but at least we can tweak that 'Apply' button so it will be more safe to apply the configuration, rather than Applying equals with OK.

Would be perfect if 'Apply' —> has a safe timeout, if 'OK' button not clicked within X seconds, it will be reverted.
