Netgear 341U -- Gobi 3000 / Sierra Wireless "Gobi 9x15 Multimode 3G/4G LTE Modem (IP passthrough mode)"?

Fri Jan 29, 2016 2:36 am

Hello,

Is it possible to get the Netgear AirCard 341U (Sprint) working on Mikrotik?

Netgear's knowledge base at http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detai ... umentation has a whole section on getting it to run with Linux, so I assumed it would work with Mikrotik... Its Linux drivers appears to be Gobi 3000.

I have not had any luck getting it to appear on Mikrotik, but it installs on Windows fine without any special work. I have it set to IP Passthrough mode to give myself a public IP, and it appears as "mobile broadband" for the actual connection and "local area network" for the management IP.

If it helps, the USB Vendor ID is 0x1199 and the Product ID is 0x9057. According to http://www.linux-usb.org/usb.ids, this is "Gobi 9x15 Multimode 3G/4G LTE Modem (IP passthrough mode)" from Sierra Wireless.

Thank you!

James

The 312U and the 320U both work.

Have you tried turning off the IP-passthrough stuff and seeing if you can connect with a PPP interface to start with?

Do those have a similar chipset? I just ordered my 341U. I don't know about the OP.

341U should work in NAT mode with latest 6.34.4 Version. But in future passthrough mode should also be possible, Because this modems uses standard CDC_ECM driver.

Any tips on getting this to work? I'm using Brian Vargyas's presentation as a guide.

The 312U and the 320U both work.

Have you tried turning off the IP-passthrough stuff and seeing if you can connect with a PPP interface to start with?

Yes.

I'm working with support on it. Trying new RC builds, sending back Linux debugging information, etc.

I successfully connect Netgear 341U in IP Passthrough mode to Sprint network. I used 35.4 firmware.
As described above, you need set to yes "Ignore DirectIP modem" in System->Ports->Firmware.
After rebooting your mikrotik device, you should see usbX port. Use this port for ppp-client, DataCannel=1, InfoCannel=1, Modem Init=at+cgdcont=1,"ip","r.r5.ispsn", APN=r.r5.ispsn. Default ppp profile is working with Sprint.

Okay, then that must not work for FreedomPOP, a Sprint MVNO.

The only thing you must do is to enable "Ip pass through" mode. I couldn't use this modem in default NAT mode. See screenshot number 3.
Don't forget to use right APN name in modem init string. In my example, it is different from your APN name.

Oh, okay, so IP pass through on the modem itself, but ignore the directIP modem in ROS.

I did adjust the APN. I'll check when I get home.

I am a newb trying to install this Netgear 341U on a hAP RB951Ui with 6.38.1. Followed the above directions. Steep learning curve but I think I'm close. Can anyone help?

The 341U reads "Ready to connect" and the PPP Client interface (named LTE) is running with some Tx. The log has "LTE: initializing modem..." "LTE: dialing out..." "LTE: authenticated" "LTE: could not determine remote address. using 10.112.112.147 "LTE: connected". I am running WinBox over the wlan.

I probably don't have the NAT rule or DHCP correct. TIA if you are able to offer advice.

I have the same issue as rramse. However, I was able to get network connectivity by adding a default route to the remote address that was assigned by the modem. This allowed me to hit websites from one of my LAN PCs. Unfortunately, the modem began to constantly hangup and reconnect shortly after enabling.

I'm running ROS 6.38.1 on a 2011UiAS-2HnD
