pptp server with windows 2000 client

Wed Oct 06, 2004 6:25 pm

I am trying to create a pptp server on my router (2.8.17). I followed
along in the manual and created my connection, enabled the server,
added a user and set my proxy ARP.

I am trying to connect from a windows 2000 Pro machine and will
eventually want to connect via a XP machine and maybe even a
PocketPC.

I have the Mikrotik setup using MSCHAP2 and the windows 2000 machine
is set to use a PPTP connection (all three setting boxes checked). I
also have just MSCHAP2 set on the 2000 machine.

When I try to connect I see a "Connection Established From X.X.X.X" in
the Mikrotik log. The 2000 machine states that it is verifying the
username password, but dies with an error "619 Port not connected".
There are no other entries in the Mikrotik log for this attempt.

What am I missing?

Thanks

Follow up with more info. I tried this agian from within my office to eliminate some of the varis. I also watched what was going on using EtherReal on a XP client and the Mikrotik packet sniffer. I can see the client and router talking back and forth, but it seems to break down on the configuration request.

The Client will send a configuration request packet which is recieved by the server. The server sends a reply back, but the client never gets it. This will happen about 9-10 times before the client gives up.

Any ideas?

My next test will be trying again with the client plugged directly into the same switch as the server.

Thanks
Mark
