USB LTE modem Vodafone Connect USB Speed 6 (K5160).

I have a problem with USB port.
[mkadmin@LouckaFW] > system resource usb print
 # DEVICE VENDOR NAME SPEED

Please do you know, where is problem? Is it RB problem? Modem problem? OR incompatibility?

Thank you for your sugestions.

I have tried two different Huawei modems with the RB951G and they both worked.
One was a modem device and could be used with PPP, the other an LTE device.
The second one requires the latest 6.35 software.

I have exactly same problem with exactly same devices. In windows, after initial configuration, it create NDIS Ethernet adapter and works properly. File on integrated mass storage indicate some support on Linux, but mass storage disappeared after initial configuration. I can connect it to Win7/Win10 or Ubuntu to further investigation. Please advise, i have no idea where to look next. Other USB dongles work fine.

Please, have you already added support for this modem (Huawei K5160 / Vodafone Connect USB Speed 6)?

I want to use it with RB951G-2HnD . Thanks.

Please try latest 6.37rc32 and see if you get any new interface (lte1) or port.

Re: USB LTE K5160 / RB951G support

I can see the interface lte1 interface (ROS 6.37.1) but PPP client shows unknown interface .
I have an old RB751U-2HnD
The stick works when it is behind NAT from the cellular ISP with dhcp client interface on the lte1 interface.
But I asked from the ISP to remove their NAT and give me direct ip on the stick (with custom settings),it doesn't work at all.
When I try to set their custom settings (APN username and password) on the lte1 interface, they are stored and after some period the settings are getting lost and the fields are blank.
The stick is branded by vodafone, and probably it is locked.
The stick works perfect under windows computer with the custom settings.
Any help to make it work with custom settings ?

Hi all,
based on the modem list on https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Peripherals I purchased a Vodafone K5160 usb modem.
But I haven't been able to connect it.
Same issues reported by the OP.

Can someone help me configure the device.

I am on the latest firmware version (updated today).

thanks

Hi MikroTik team,
can anyone help me configuring the LTE K5160 device on RouterOS.
I have purchased the Mikrotik router and specifically the LTE device as the latter is listed inside your wiki (https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Peripherals) as compatible, but I haven't been able to use it.

I am eager to try to make it work as I can't return the units that I have purchased.

Please give me some hints on how to proceed.

thanks
P.S. should I open a new thread or keep using this old one?

Usually the only thing you need to do is go to interfaces and check that your device is available as lte1
and then go to IP->DHCP client and add a DHCP client for lte1.
That should enable internet access via LTE. Of course when your requirements are more complex, e.g.
you want to use LTE as a backup for another internet connection, it is more complex.

Hi @pe1chl,
I did that.
I just want to access Internet through LTE. No backup.
I can see lte1 interface (R=RUNNING), set the DHCP, the APN, Enabled WAN - lte1 in the interface list, set DNS.
I see small amount of data passing through the interface (10kbps) but there is no internet access.

From time to time in the log I see
lte1 link down
lte1 link up

Any step by step tutorial?
I am sure I am missing something stupid.

Update the router to the latest RouterOS (6.42) then reset the configuration to defaults and do a /export and paste that here.

Ok, starting from this config you should add the dhcp-client for lte1 and add lte1 to the interface-list WAN.
Then it should just work.
/ip dhcp-client
add dhcp-options=hostname,clientid disabled=no interface=lte1
/interface list member
add interface=lte1 list=WAN

Hi,
thanks for your reply.
I had already tested those configurations before resetting, but it was not working.
I added also APN and DNS, but still no luck.

I noted one thing that is strange: in the lte1 setting page, none of the settings are stored and specifically the APN profile remains empty even after setting it and apply the settings.
Maybe the problem is this.
Anyway of reading and setting the APN profile to the lte1 interface from the command line?
