I am new to Mikrotik; not newer to the world of networking though. I recently installed RB2011il-IN Router at my house with all default out of the box settings. I have Time Warner Cable with 300Mbps/30Mbps using SB6183 modem.

When I connect my laptop directly to the modem and run speedtest; I get 300Mbps+ speeds. When I connect via my RB2011il-IN Mikrotik Router using the ether1 port (default); I get upto 95Mbps down and 25Mbps up.

To begin with, I reset my router back to factory default settings and made sure the firmware was up to date; still the same speed. I haven't done anything else yet; I wanted to know if anyone had a similar experience like mine and what was the outcome; was it bad piece of hardware or changing the WAN port from ether1 to another port fixed it?

I read some posts on the web that there are some Mikrotik users who faced this problem and couple of them had to replace their routers to another brand in general. I will really appreciate the feedback from anyone and everyone that can help suggest some ideas to try out; I really like options in this router and would like to give it a fair chance and not dump it for another brand.

Thank you for your prompt reply. It does show IPv4 fasttrack is checked. Is there any other settings related to fasttrack that I should be looking for?

I went back and followed the steps shows on Mikrotik's Wiki page on applying the rule for fasttrack connection; same result. Any other suggestions or ideas?

I have tried Port 5 (Gigabit Ethernet) and then Port 6 and Port 7 (Fast Ethernet). I use http://www.speedtest.net and http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest

That's exactly how I have it set. Ether1 is for WAN; Ether2 to 5 has my laptops plugged-in. The RB2011il-IN doesn't have a gigabit link light. The LED's on the front represent port numbers. The profiler showed bridge, ethernet and firewall activity when I ran a speed test.

After I got home today; I also did a hard reset and cleared all the settings. Connected my Time Warner Cable on ether1 and ether2 had my laptop; and still the same.

You can check the link speed on the web interface by clicking the ethernet interface in the interfaces menu and scroll
down the details page.

.. Yeah. Or rather use winbox. If the cpu is not exhausted, it will be the link speed negotiation problem most probably.

I am having the same problem with Cox Cable. I have a SB6182 modem connected to a RB750GL. The circuit is provisioned for 25mb down and 5mb up, which I get connected directly to the modem. I have a /28 block and the RB750 is connected between the modem and the primary router strictly for routing of the IP addresses. It has a very basic configuration, and shows gigabit links between devices. With the RB750 in the mix, the download drops to 6mb and the upload stays at 5mb. I also test using Speakeasy and Speedtest.net. It is running version 6.35.1.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I was able to solve my problem with slow speeds. I don't know what causes it, but I have read in a few places that it seems to happen with Routerboards and Arris cable modems.

I solved my problem by replacing the Routerboard 750GL with a new router from Ubiquity (an Edgerouter X). The specs are similar to the 750GL, just with a faster CPU. https://www.ubnt.com/edgemax/edgerouter-x/

I duplicated the configuration, cloned the MAC address to the WAN port, and swapped the devices. Down time was only a couple minutes, and I didn't have to reboot the modem or any other devices. Speeds were immediately back to where they should be.

Thanks guys, I had the same issue with an Arris 6183 on TWC with 300Mbps down connection. I followed the rules at http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Wiki/Fasttrack and now the speed tests come close to 300Mbps.
