CAPsMAN disable B and G modes (N-only)

Tue Apr 26, 2016 3:20 am

Hi, i'm trying to setup a CAP managed wifi installation, and could not find a way to disable 802.11b and G modes.

I have selected 2g-onlyN under the channels tab, but registration still reports all modes being broadcast
(CCK:1-11 OFDM:6-54 BW:1x HT:0-7),

confirmed by Acrylic-wifi site survey, indicates b,g,n 130mbps, where it should indicate n-only, 144.4mbps.

Is there any parameter i'm missing?

routeros v6.35 includes the option to select data-rates for managed caps

then you can disable b and g datarates

i recommend to leave some g datarates for example 24mbps and 48mbps for broader compatibility with some clients

and use bgn mode for compatibility too

CAP interface print detail shows:

name="CAP2" mtu=1500 l2mtu=1600 mac-address=E4:8D:8C:XX:XX:XX
arp=enabled radio-mac=E4:8D:8C:XX:XX:XX master-interface=none
configuration=TV security=TV datapath=datapath1 channel=1
current-state="running-ap" current-channel="2412/20/gn(22dBm)"
current-rate-set="CCK:1-11 OFDM:6-54 BW:1x HT:0-15"
current-basic-rate-set="OFDM:6 BW:1x HT:0-7"

and actual-interface-configuration shows:

name="CAP2" mtu=1500 l2mtu=1600 mac-address=E4:8D:8C:XX:XX:XX
arp=enabled arp-timeout=auto radio-mac=E4:8D:8C:XX:XX:XX
master-interface=none configuration.mode=ap configuration.ssid="TV"
configuration.hide-ssid=no configuration.tx-chains=0,1,2
configuration.rx-chains=0,1,2 configuration.guard-interval=any
configuration.country=brazil security.authentication-types=wpa2-psk
security.encryption=aes-ccm security.group-encryption=aes-ccm
security.passphrase="password" datapath.client-to-client-forwarding=yes
datapath.bridge=bridge1 datapath.bridge-cost=0
datapath.local-forwarding=yes datapath.vlan-mode=(unknown)
datapath.vlan-id=1 channel.frequency=2412 channel.width=20
channel.band=2ghz-onlyn channel.extension-channel=disabled

Even setting channel band to only-N still broadcasts all rates from B to G54.

How and where do i change the current-rate-set and current-basic-rate-set paramenters?

@chechito, thank-you very much for the help, and sorry about the other topic.

i must have missed something, because there is no rate tab in the CAPsMAN menu.

The only thing i can think of is that the CAP was set up in 6.34, and then upgraded to 6.35

This new tab is only available in the new wireless-rep package.

OK, got it.

Went to http://www.mikrotik.com/download , downloaded the .zip with all packages for 6.35.1

>> http://download2.mikrotik.com/routeros/ ... 6.35.1.zip

Unzipped it, dragged the wireless-re.6.35.1.npk to the files tab in the radio, disabled wireless-cm2 and rebooted.

Worked fine! Thanks!

There is a little caveat. Apparently the rate profiles don't work yet, so i had to set them up for every interface
(Virtual AND fisical).

Thanks all for the help!
